SyFy's Alphas... Eagerly Promising

I'll be honest... When I saw the teasers for Alphas in the past few months, I poo-pahed it. I love Eureka and Haven and Warehouse 13 but I had been looking for something fresh and captivating. I couldn't imagine after the recent cancellations of some really cool shows, Stargate Universe, Stargate Atlantis, V, $#!% My Dad Says, Chase, and Enterprise, that I could be excited about a new show. I figured I would give this Alphas pilot episode a try.

This show starts off differently from Heroes such that you being watching the show with the Alphas already in Dr. Rosen's institutional care and working a puzzling murder case within five minutes. You learn a little about their individual abilities as the story goes along. All except for the the newest Alpha, Hicks, whose story unfolds throughout the duration of the show. The rest of the group need some development, and stories of origin, and I'm banking that we will get more history of these Alphas in future episodes. How did they discover their talents? How did they come to be affiliated with Dr. Rosen's program? It would be a good idea to explore these characters if the show is going to expand in any significant way.

In summary, I'm hooked. I love the concept and I see potential for this show to get off the ground. I enjoyed the story of the pilot and I'm looking forward to some insight on the Alphas and I'm eager to see what the Red Flag group is about. I can see some subtle twists and turns already and I'm starting to ask myself some questions about who may not be who they seem to be. I'll be tuning in...

Alphas airs Mondays on SyFy at 10pm EST.
